DIY Photo Frame Calendar

SCHEDULED BLISS

Living with a commercial pilot equates to a very unpredictable schedule. Rosters change every month and flights get cancelled, delayed and switched so trying to keep a traditional ink calendar neat and tidy is near impossible. Because I'm just a little OCD I needed a better solution. When I stumbled across erasable whiteboard style calendars I knew I had to make one to match our modern teal decor.

This teal and lime beauty is a super simple project and only took 2 hours to complete.

How I Did It

1. Decide on the dimensions for each days square (mine are 4 x 4.5cm). Don't forget to allow for the border, spaces between the squares and a header space to handwrite the month. I bought my frame (Nyttja Frame 40cm x 50cm from Ikea) before I had thought about the size of the squares so my squares are a little smaller than I would have liked.

2. Lightly draw a pencil grid onto the backing sheet to ensure everything is straight and evenly spaced

3. Pick your colour scheme - If you don't have scrapbooking paper you could use paint chips like some of the examples below. Unfortunately paint chips aren't easy to come by in Hong Kong so I couldn't use them. I recommend using paper that has a small scale and has a light pattern so that it the marker pen shows up clearly.

4. Glue down all the squares and write on all your important events :)

Project Inspiration

My inspiration for this project came from this Ombre Paint Chip Calendar I found on Pinterest. Using paint chips to achieve a perfect ombre effect is genius!

I instantly fell in love with this Paint Chip Calendar by MapleandMagnolia on Pinterest. The colour pallete is stunning and I really like the minimalist style. If I ever make another calendar I will be making it exactly like this one. Now I just need to invest in a rounded corner punch :p

Our calendar only has to cater for a couples worth of events. Families and busy bodies may have trouble fitting their life into the tiny paint chip sized spaces. This Weekly Calendar by Next to Heaven would be a great alternative for those that are busier or have bigger handwriting.
